Inter Island Propane Open for Business!
October 2016
Donny Galt of Ace Hardware and Jimmie Lawson of Jim’s Heating have partnered together to create a new business offering propane to the islands.
“With the recent buyout of VanderYacht Propane by AmeriGas (DBA San Juan Propane) we both realized the importance of a new option for the residents of San Juan County” says Donny. “As we both came to the partnership table we realized how valuable we will be as partners. Jimmie’s 30+ years in the heating and cooling business and my 30+ years in a variety of entrepreneur ventures has created, in my opinion, a perfect match for a new propane sales ans service business.”
2 new propane trucks and a large assortment of propane tanks have arrived. The storage facility is nearing completion and the large storage tank should arrive within the next couple of weeks. They hope to begin delivering propane at the end of October on San Juan Island.

WA STATE PROPANE/NATURAL GAS NEWS
July 5th, 2024 : Today, we are proud to announce that we have collected over 546,000 signatures in support of I-2066. This is the second-highest number of signatures gathered for a Washington state initiative and the most gathered in over 50 years. We were able to collect this record breaking amount in only 50 days, showing how powerful Washington citizens’ voices are. Thank you for all your support! Be sure to vote for I-2066 in November! READ FULL ARTICLE
May 15th, 2024: Supporters must get about 324,500 valid signatures by July 5 in order to qualify for the ballot.
Ballot Measure Summary
This measure would require utilities and local governments to provide natural gas to eligible customers; prevent state approval of rate plans requiring or incentivizing gas service termination, restricting access to gas service, or making it cost-prohibitive; and prohibit the state energy code, localities, and air pollution control agencies from penalizing gas use. It would repeal sections of chapter 351, Laws of 2024, including planning requirements for cost-effective electrification and prohibitions on gas rebates and incentives.
Signing Initiative 2066 gives voters the power to:
-
Protect natural gas for heating, cooking and more.
-
Stop state and local governments, and their agencies, from banning, restricting, or discouraging gas and gas appliances in homes and businesses, like restaurants.
-
Make sure gas utilities will continue to provide natural gas to customers who want it
-
Stop the state from limiting natural gas service to homes and businesses, like restaurants and breweries.
-
Protect people from having to switch to only electric energy.
-
Keep the power on when our energy grid is at capacity in super cold or hot weather.
Signing Initiative 2066 does not:
-
Force anyone to use gas or gas appliances – I-2066 just lets you choose.
-
Take away any energy incentives and rebates for those who choose them.
-
Reduce the state’s commitment to addressing climate change.

January 1st, 2023: In 2021, Governor Inslee and the Washington Legislature passed the Climate Commitment Act (or CCA) which establishes a comprehensive, market-based program to reduce carbon pollution and achieve the greenhouse gas limits set in state law.
With that, effective January 1st, 2023 Washington State Legislature has rolled out “The Cap and Invest” program. This program aims to set a limit on overall carbon emissions in the State and requires businesses to obtain allowances equal to covered greenhouse gas emissions through quarterly regulated auctions. This program has increased the price of gasoline, diesel, natural gas and propane throughout the state. Your current invoice reflects this new incremental price increase. The state will be performing regulated “auctions” quarterly. We will remain diligent evaluating this program and passing on this information to our customers.
For more information about the “Cap and Invest” program you can find more info at https://ecology.wa.gov/Air-Climate/Climate-Commitment-Act/Cap-and-invest.
